MALAYSIA AIRPORT LIST

A. Penang International Airport

Penang, "the Pearl of the Orient" has been on the tourist route-map for decades, and is now fast-growing as an industrial centre. With the combined attractions of tourism and business, Penang airport has been upgraded to cater to the increasing traffic demand.

In 2005, the airport handled more than 2.8 million passengers, with 31,173 aircraft movements. It also handled 221,971 metric tones of cargo in 2005. A new cargo centre was opened for operations in 2000 with a capacity to handle 360,000 tonnes of cargo.

Penang International is a medium-sized airport with good connections with major cities in South East Asia. Passengers arriving or departing from the north will have a fabulous view of George Town, Butterworth and the Penang Bridge. Waiting times for check-in and baggage claims are relatively short compared to other larger regional airports. The airport is not crowded and basic facilities are available for users.

The airport is the hub of Firefly, a new subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines.
